Genetics is all about the study of inheritance that occurs in human beings. It is the study of inheritance of characteristics by children from their parents. Inheritance in humans is similar to that of other organisms. There are some important aspects of genetics like those of chromosomes, there are in all 46 chromosomes in humans of them 44 are autosomes and 2 are sex chromosomes identified as X and Y-chromosomes. In female the sex chromosomes are XX whereas in male both are XY.

The interest in this area develops with an urge to know who humans are, how they are and why they are. Some of the geneticists do their specialization in hereditary process of human genetics where more stress is given on understanding and treating genetic disease and ill health influenced genetically.
All these studies come under medical genetics and backed by laboratory research that deals with the mechanisms of human gene function and malfunction, investigating pharmaceuticals and other types.
